Signal Strength Status
Field Description
Signal Displays the Relative Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) of the signal transmitted
between the AP and mobile computer. As long as the Signal Quality icon is green
the AP association is not jeopardized. If the icon is red (poor signal), an association
with a different AP could be warranted to improve the signal. The signal strength
icon changes depending on the signal strength.
Excellent Signal
Very Good Signal
Good Signal
Fair Signal
Poor Signal
Out of Range (no signal)
The radio card is off or there is a problem communicating with the radio card.
Status Indicates if the mobile computer is associated with the AP.
Signal Quality Displays a text format of the Signal icon.
Tx Retries Displays a percentage of the number of data packets the mobile computer
retransmits. The fewer transmit retries, the more efficient the wireless network is.
Missed Beacons Displays a percentage of the amount of beacons the mobile computer missed. The
fewer transmit retries, the more efficient the wireless network is. Beacons are
uniform system packets broadcast by the AP to keep the network synchronized.
Signal Level The AP signal level in decibels per milliwatt (dBm).
Noise Level The background interference (noise) level in decibels per milliwatt (dBm).
SNR The access point/mobile computer Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of signal strength to
noise (interference) in decibels per milliwatt (dBm).
Association Count Displays the number of APs the mobile computer connects to while roaming.
AP MAC Address Displays the MAC address of the AP to which the mobile computer is connected.
Transmit Rate Displays the current rate of the data transmission.
